I met Derrick Sivers of CD Baby in NYC

Everyone has probably heard of CD Baby. Perhaps some of you even purchased a few CD’s from your favorite independent musicians there. Well, a few years ago I self-published a CD and I too was selling my music through there, as well as many other outlets. I remember being new to everything (publishing, distribution, and even the internet. Yep, the internet). I was fortunate enough to meet Derek Sivers, founder, in NYC last year after selling my orchestra CD.

The other day I was going through my folders and saw this picture that I completely forgot about. For those who are interested in CD Baby and the people in the music biz – here it is. Derek is an awesome guy, someone who I wish all people were like. He truly cares about those around him and is always doing cool new things. His innovative business model changed the music distribution industry, and I was thrilled to be able to talk to him. He mentioned about some film directors, photographers, other musicians, etc. and what people have done in order to excel, and his thoughts on the industry today. Derek, you’re awesome.
