Podcamp Pittsburgh 3 Thoughts and Experiences
I’ve said it before: “New Media is magical – not because of the technology, but because of the people.”
PCPGH3 was no exception. It was a blast, met amazing people, learned cool things, and got to become part of a beautiful city for a weekend!
Here’s what I learned about Pittsburgh:

Podcamp Pittsburgh 3 Sponsors!
The entire event was sponsored by a bunch of companies, including Meakem Becker Venture Capital, Viddler, Blubrry, Wizzard Media, VisitPittsburgh, ShowClix, Pair Networks, Pittsburgh Gateways, The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Wear Pittsburgh, ElasticLab, AlphaLab and more!
This is important because its what keeps these things going. It allows us to enjoy the days and creates a stronger community. I was thrilled to get the VIP package for the event, which included some neat take-homes, and I’ll be checking out the sponsors.
Making Connections at Podcamp Pittsburgh!
I always travel alone, I feel like that I move too quick to have others hold me behind, so of course I took a flight to Pittsburgh not knowing what to expect, which is the fun of it, too – It forces me to come out of my shell, meet people, invest in the conversations, and ultimately be independent. So I was thrilled when I also bumped into Brandice, Dave Mansuedo, and Jonny Goldstein and Chris Brogan again from IndyHall and BlogWorld respectively. Those two events were great, and I immediately began enjoying the Expo the second I entered the building. I also got to meet for the first time GeekStar, KathleenLD, Franklin McMahon, Grace Piper, Charles hope and Nathan King of Blip.tv, Jim Russell, and tons of others. Alot of the sessions were about Twitter, Wordpress, Video editing, and much more. the transition of Mainstream media into ‘New Media’ is amazing. The way to get the most out of these is to become a part of the enviroment. Go out at night, attend sessions, meet people, and have a blast! I also presented at 3 very well received sessions, which I’ll be blogging about tomorrow.
The Schwag was cool, too – Shirts, folder, pads, and even BIG ups to Jason Cable who made killer @PCPGH pens! HAHA
Networking, laughing, and learning!
Don’t forget to also check out OMG Pittsburgh. Its a neat idea where everyone who contributes to PCPGH is able to now come together and collaborate on the website. Thse who sign up are automatic admins, and therefore can blog, etc.
The next PCPGH meet-up is Nov 19 at the Firehouse Lounge in the Strip (2216 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15222). So if you’re in the area you should definitely stop by. I can’t make it, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t!

My thanks to everyone who I met and connected with. Oh and don’t forget to check out the Podcamp WIKI. Its always a blast meeting new peeps and sharing ideas, technology, and friendships. See ya soon, hopefully before October 2009!

It was great to talk with you there. Looks like you have some great stuff happening. I will soon add the feed of your lessons into my iPhone/iTunes subscription set so I can see what you’re up to. Grats again on the Rev3 stuff. You’ve inspired me to get my stuff together and start doing more video with my music stuff. I’m going into the studio tomorrow night even to mess around with some stuff.
If you’re in Boston, hit me up and come check out the (huge, insane) recording studio that I sometimes work with.
It was nice meeting you a podcamp, look forward to watching your show.
I was in Phily about 5 months ago, its a nice place and its a lot bigger then Pittsburgh. The big market there in town had some really nice bacon! I think I have a photo of it in my flickr account.
Hey … I did not meet you @ PCPGH3, but loved it anyway!
I’m liking the look of your blog. Cool. I shall return.
Thanks for mentioning us in your post, Walt! It was our pleasure to help out by sponsoring.
I’m watching some of your video tutorials now, and I hope you get the chance to check out our site and see if you may be able to work on some of our video projects.
Glad you could make it out for PCPGH! I’d never noticed the preponderance of scarfs around town, but you’re right — those rivers do send up a little chill…
Thanks so much for wowing the audience (repeatedly) with your ultra-high energy sessions! Rumor has it that they’re working up a PodCamp Harrisburg ( http://podcampharrisburg.pbwiki.com/ ) so maybe we can all venture in from Pittsburgh and Philly and have a big “pro-PA” gathering… (Also, next time you’re visiting the ‘burgh, drop someone from PCPGH a line and we’ll see if we can tab a volunteer to help you avoid the 28X — trust us, the buses confuse US, too…)
Hi Marina! Yes, I’ll definetly check it out I looked at the site and watched a few car videos
Lets definetly keep in touch. Looks neat!
