Guitar Tablature

OK so for all you Guitar players, here’s the best Tablature sites out there. TABS are simply a way to read the guitar by numbers rather than by reading Music. Wanna learn that new Pearl Jam, Jonathan Coulton, Brad Sucks, Rolling Stones, Britney Spears track? Well then look no further – these sites have the goods. There’s of course Pros and Cons to doing this, as its important to learn to read tabs as well as as read music. So don’t choose one over the other. When you know better, you do better. So here’s the list:

10. Guitar Tabs.net

You can think of this site as being an aggregator for every Tab website. The way its listed is very easy to navigate through. As the way the web is designed – navigation is very important. Content is #1, but if you don’t make it easy for your viewers to find that content, then its meaningless. This site lists their Top 100 Guitar Sites, too.

9. X Guitar

Wanna Learn Californication for bass? Or how about System of a Down for Guitar? X guitar has it, and I’m sure they have yours too. Great site, and very easy to follow.

8. Guitar Tabs.com

This site has it all, and then some. They have an easy front page where you can navigate to their Sheet Music, Bass Guitars, Magazines, Free Music, and more!

7. 911 Tabs

This site claims to have over 3 million tabs. I don’t have that much time to double check it though :) I will say that I have used this site before and its a great service. Users send in their works and others rate it. As opposed to the other sites, 911 Tabs does ONLY tabs. From Drum tabs, to Guitar tabs, to Piano tabs – they got it.

6. Guitar World

This is an interesting site, because whereas guitar World is a magazine, alongside that are professional transcriptions of songs. So they republish the tabs on their website after each month’s issue. Alongside this magazine is Guitar One, which was y favorite magazine growing up. GW is a very reputable company, so you may enjoy this.

5. E-Chords

As we get more into Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 we are beginning to see faster computers, internet connections, and disk space. All this leads up to innovation – so what’s that mean? Well, we’ve wwent from Blog, to pictures, to audio, and now have the ability to do full video tutorials. So whereas Tabs will ALWAYS be around and there will always be a demand for them, you can’t deny this websites luxury and usability of their TAB videos

4. Ultimate Guitar

As far as I kow, UG is the biggest and most widely used website for guitar tabs. TYhey have every conceivable band, and more. Whether its guitar tabs, bass tabs, chords and guitar pro tabs. Comprehensive tabs archive with over 250000 tabs! They have a great search engine and great community, too.

3. Guitar Masta

I enjoy seeing how every website has their own way of doing things. This site chose to put their Forum on the very front page. Almost like a Splash Page. very innovative, because it stresses the Community aspect of the site, and that’s awesome. They have a bunch of great tabs, and selections, so i enjoyed this site.

2. Rock Magic

The selection here isn’t so great. but they do have the favorites like Pink Floyd and AC/DC. Two things I noticed is they not only have a Forum, but also an entire Lyrics Section!

1. MXtabs

The world’s first free and legal guitar tab site. they may not be the busiest and biggest, but they do it right. Originally launched in 1999, MXTabs was one of the first and most popular destinations for guitarists and drummers to participate in an active community of tab, and home to one of the largest catalogs of freely available tablature. Its legal, its well designed, and they have a great Forum and Customer Service to go along with it.

Great list, Walt. Now maybe I can stop Googling tabs and go directly to the sites. One of the first web sites I ever went to was Olga.net. Somehow they didn’t last but it’s nice that there are these other resources.

And while not a tab site, I would recommend, http://www.its-all-about-guitar.com

Very good Chord Dictionary and sections on alternative tunings and Guitar Maintenance among other things.

    Cheers

Why isnt Chordie (http://www.chordie.com) included? It does focus on lyrics/chords, but is still a great resource for tabs.
