Internet Songs bleed into Kanye West, T.I. and Daft Punk
OK, so we’re starting to see the Internet reach more mainstream. Kanye West ‘Stronger‘ plays off Internet Phenomenon ‘Daft Punk’s Harder Better Faster Stronger’ which became an internet meme after ‘Daft Hands‘ youtube video. In addition, T.I.’s ‘Live Your Life‘ currently has topped the Billboard 100 with a #1 single after his play on Numa Numa’s internet meme from the Numa Numa kid. Here’s T.I.’s New Music Video ‘Live Your Life’:

Weezer’s ‘Pork and Beans‘ included several major internet celebs like Tay Zonday, . I even arranged it for orchestra.
The Weezer song contained more internet memes like Tay Zonday, Numa Numa, Kelly’s Shoes (Liam Sullivan), Conner Berge, and Chris Crocker.

So now we’re starting to see serious influence in both platforms. Interesting, that this would happen now. Even Ask a Ninja creator Kent Nichols was reported on Pop17 to be involved in major Hollywood Film Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. In addition, Felicia Day of ‘The Guild‘ fame was recently on a Best Buy commercial. Numa Numa:
So here we have it, a true blend of both internet and mainstream audiences. Truth is, I think both platforms work well together, and its an exciting time to be involved in the scene.
So what do you think of these mainstream songs using the internet to increase exposure in both artists’ mainstream and internet presence?

Something that we should all learn is that success on the internet is often a random thing. I doubt that the Numa Numa song would have ever been popular without this video, but it gave it the legs that it needed to take off. I’m sure Daft Punk saw a nice boost in CD sales from kids picking up their CD’s (or iTunes downloads, or concert tickets) who barely knew what music was when “Homework” or “Discovery” came out.
