How can I help Walt Ribeiro out with his Music and Lessons?

Simple – you can help by spreading the word. It takes ALOT of time and effort to do this on a consistent basis. So linking to me in your blog, or something like sending the video or music link to someone is really appreciated!

What’s Creative Commons?

Glad you asked! Well, go here to quickly see what its all about. Basically, it’s me saying “yeah, go ahead and remix, give away, and use my music for whatever non-commercial project you want!” I LOVE to see remixes of my work. Here’s an example of what someone did to my piece “Airies”.

Awesome! So I can just get all this music for free?

Yep, but I depend on your donations and purchases to make the whole thing work. Free music doesn’t help with my bottom line, and being a musician working 17 hour days is hard enough as is. So why do I give it away for free? Because orchestral music is so difficult to get out there, this at least lets more people hear my work. Even a small donation helps. If everyone who came to my site helped me out, I’d be a lot better. And if you can’t compensate me with actual money, you can help by spreading the word to someone else.

Can I use your song in my Youtube/movie/podcast/remix?

Yep! But ONLY my original music. This is because my music is licensed under the Creative Commons license which gives you that right. I LOVE to see remixes of my work. Here’s an example of what someone did to my piece ‘Airies’. So feel free to use it. You can also donate money to me, or purchase the music through iTunes, etc.

Your original music is ‘Podsafe’… What’s that mean?

Podsafe refers to me being a member of the Podsafe Music Network (PMN). PMN is basically a network of musicians who allow Podcasters to broadcast our music on their podshow. Support the Podcasters, they work very hard, and devote a lot of time to their craft. So let them know you appreciate it!

What is your Studio Rig like?

After transcribing onto my Carta No. 27 Paper (because its huge) I engrave all of my scores into Sibelius 4, and use East West, VSL, and Garritan. Most recording is done through my Mac G5 using DP (Digital Performer) 5.0, but I also use Ableton Live sometimes, and Garageband 2 for some other cool stuff. I mix everything in my Grado Headphones, and occasionally strum the ‘ol guitar and piano by my computer.
